Most cephalopods — the scientific grouping that contains squids, cuttlefish, and octopus — can change colours or patterns!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Change the colours: Use vibrant pinks, blues, and purples to mimic real squid species, or create a rainbow squad with a variety of cheerful colours.
  • Add details: Embroider on eyes or a mischievous smile for extra personality.
  • Crochet tentacles of different lengths: Replicate the variety you find in real squids.

  • Did you know there are over 300 different species of squid?
  • Some squids can grow up to 40 feet long! (Though your amigurumi version will definitely be much smaller!)
  • They have eight arms and two tentacles, which they use for swimming and catching prey. Whereas an octopus has 8 tentacles.
