It is highly recommended to complete the No Sew Jelly Bean Mallard Duck pattern in the order the pattern is written.

Start your Jelly Bean Mallard Duck Free Crochet Pattern:

Main Colours – Brown (Caramel)/Green (Shamrock) (12 yards each)

Accent Colours – Gold (Gold Dust), Cream (Beige) (small amount each)

Cute Crochet Duck Wings (make 2): The wings are worked in 1 Row with the 2 ends used to tie the wings in place after they are crocheted on.

Using Brown, leave a 6 inch starting tail, ch 3

Row 1: 3dc into the 3rd ch from the hook (starting ch), ch2, ss into same ch (starting ch) (3)

Mark the starting chain with a stitch marker to help with crocheting the wing on.  End off, leaving a 6 inch tail.

Cute Crochet Duck Body/Head: The body and head are worked in one piece from the bottom up in continuous round

Using Brown, create a Magic Ring

Round 1: 6sc in the ring (6)
Round 2: *2sc* 6 times (12)
Round 3: *sc in the next, 2sc* 6 times (18)
Round 4: sc, change to Gold, bobble st, change to Brown sc in the next 5 sts, change to Gold, bobble st,  change to Brown, sc in the next 10 sts (18)
Round 5: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)
Rounds 6-7: sc in each st (15), after Round 7 change to Cream

Round 8: Adding Wings:

Place the animal down on a hard surface with the body face ‘up’ and the feet facing you.  Locate the 7 centre front sts and mark them with a stitch marker (the wings will be placed on either side of these sts). Locate the far right marked st.  Count over 1 st to the right of it, if this is not the next unworked st of the body, crochet over to this stitch. (If left handed you will locate the left st and count over 1 st to the left).

Place the first wing in front of the body to the right of the marked sts (left if you’re left handed).  Working through both pieces (beginning with the marked starting chain of the wing and the next unworked st on the body), sc.

Working through the body only, scdec, sc in the next 3 sts, scdec, (these are your marked sts).  Place the second wing in front of your work (body). Working through both pieces, sc in the next st, working through the body only, sc in the next 2 sts, scdec, sc in the next 2 sts (12), change to Green

After completing the round, pull the tails into the body on either side of the stitch used to attach the wings. Tie the tails together inside the body.

Round 9: *2sc* 12 times (24)
Rounds 10-12: sc in each st (24)
Round 13: *sc in the next 6 sts, scdec* 3 times (21)
Round 14: *sc in the next 5 sts, scdec* 3 times (18)
Round 15: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)

Adding Eyes:     If using safety eyes, place 6 sts apart on Round 12 of the body/head. Begin Stuffing.

Round 16: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 3 times (12)
Finish stuffing
Round 17: *scdec* 6 times (6)
(optional making the tuft of hair)
Round 18: working in the FLO *ch4, ss in the next 2 sts* 3 times (3 tufts)
End off leaving a 6 inch tail, cinch the last 6 sts together using the BLO of Round 17  and weave in the end.

Cute Crochet Duck Beak:
Using Gold, insert  your needle horizontally 1 round down from eyes under 4 sts.  (Note – to make it centred you may need to insert needle in the middle of the sts as shown).  Repeat 4-5 times though the same set of holes.  Tie off and weave in ends.

Follow video for embroidering the beak.

Q&A: Your Jelly Bean Duck Crochet Questions Answered!

Here’s some frequently asked questions about the Free No-Sew Jelly Bean Mallard Duck Crochet Pattern to help you create your own adorable little ducks for Easter, Spring or just for cuddles!

How do I get the pattern?

The full free pattern is available right here on this blog post! You can scroll down for the written instructions and materials list. There’s also a full video tutorial linked in the post to guide you through each step.

How long does it take to make one duck?

One of the best things about this pattern is how quick it is! Most crocheters can complete a Jelly Bean Mallard Duck in under an hour.

What yarn should I use?

The pattern is designed for Hobbii Honey Bunny yarn (a super bulky weight 6), which creates a lovely, cuddly texture. However, you can substitute with any similar super bulky yarn. Just be aware that using a different yarn weight might slightly affect the finished size of your duck.

What does “no-sew” mean?

“No-sew” means that all the pieces of the duck are crocheted together as you go, so you don’t have to sew any parts on separately. This makes the project much faster and easier, especially for beginners.

What if I don’t have safety eyes?

No problem! The video tutorial includes instructions on how to embroider sleepy eyes as an alternative to using safety eyes. This is also a safer option for toys intended for young children.

What can I do with my finished Jelly Bean Mallard Duck?

These little amigurumi ducks are perfect for so many things! They make great gifts for friends and family, adorable decorations for nurseries or kids’ rooms, and they’re also popular items to sell at craft markets.
