What do you think of my cute Amigurumi Christmas Tree? If you made a tiny version to hang, it could be a Christmas tree Christmas tree ornament! Haha! I was thinking about what to call it, and I admit, I did consider this, but decided not to confuse everyone!

The free Lil’ Loops Christmas Tree crochet pattern is soft and squishy, and quick to make! It’s a low-sew amigurumi pattern that’s perfect for advanced beginner crocheters. I love a quick make and I know that you do too! These little Christmas trees will instantly decorate your work desk they’re a fun Kris Kringle gift idea, plus it can hold a candy cane! Quick & Easy Amigurumi Christmas Tree Pattern

The Lil’ Loops Christmas Tree Ornament is shown using Hobbii Honey Bunny (similar to Premier Parfait Chunky), a light super bulky (6) yarn.

Feel free to experiment with your favourite Amigurumi yarns for this festive project! Check out this post for helpful guidelines on choosing yarn.

The pattern is demonstrated with 10.5 mm black safety eyes from Amazon. For those planning to sell or gift to children under 3, the pattern also includes instructions for embroidering safe, sleepy eyes.

The amigurumi Christmas tree features tiny bells as decorative baubles. However, these aren’t child or pet friendly, so please make sure you keep this in mind when you’re crafting your own cute ornament.

All the patterns in the Lil’ Loops Holiday Collection, including this amigurumi Christmas tree, are quick and simple to create with minimal sewing required. The body and head are crocheted as one piece, with the limbs worked in seamlessly as you go.

Hobbii Honey Bunny (yarn substitutes Premier Parfait Chunky, Himalaya Dolphin Baby)
Hook Size:5.0 mm (H)
Main Colour 35 yards Shamrock (Green)
Accent Colours 
Chocolate (Brown), White, Gold Dust (small amount of each)
Optional: Black and White Embroidery Thread (or medium weight yarn)
Polyester fillingsmall amount
Black safety eyes 2 – 10.5mm

Round 1:     6sc in the ring (6)
Round 2:     2sc in each st (12)
Round 3:     *sc, 2sc* 6 times (18)
Round 4:    *sc in the next 2 sts, 2sc* 6 times (24)

Notes: 

  • #sc, eg. (2sc, 3sc, etc) shows the number of scs to be completed in the indicated st
  • Sts listed between brackets are all worked in the same st, eg. (hdc, dc)
  • I highly recommend using a stitch marker to help keep track of the rounds for the body/head

 It is highly recommended to complete the Lil’ Loops Christmas Tree pattern in order, as written.

Start your Lil’ Loops Christmas Tree Free Crochet Pattern

Christmas Tree Arms/Legs (Make 4):

The arms/legs are worked in 1 joined oval round.

Using Brown, ch 6

Round 1: 2hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in the next 3 chs, 5hdc in last ch (mark 3rd hdc with stitch marker), turn (rotate) and begin working the other side of the ch, sc in the next 3 chs, 3hdc in the last ch (mark the last hdc with stitch marker), join with ss to the first hdc (16)
End off, weave in ends.

Christmas Tree Body/Head:

The body and head are worked in one piece from the bottom up in continuous rounds with the legs and arms crocheted in as you go.  

Note:  Videos show the technique used in this pattern, please note that this pattern has 7 sts between both the legs and the arms. 

Using Green, create a Magic Ring

Round 1: 8sc in the ring (8)
Round 2: *2sc* 8 times (16)
Round 3: *sc in the next st, 2sc* 8 times (24)
Round 4:

Sc in the next st, 

Fold the first leg in half so that the 2 stitches (marked by stitch markers) are lined up.  Hold the leg in front of your work.  Working through the leg (2 marked stitches) and the next unworked st of the body, 2sc

Working through the body only, Sc in the next 7 sts,

Fold the second leg in half so that the 2 stitches (marked by stitch markers) are lined up.  Hold the leg in front of your work.  Working through the leg (2 marked stitches) and the next unworked st of the body, 2sc

Working through the body only, Sc in the next 14 sts (26).

Round 5: sc, scdec, sc in the next 7 sts, scdec, sc in the last 14 sts (24)
Round 6: sc in each st (24)
Round 7: Working in BLO for entire round (use a stitch marker to mark the Front Loop of the first st), sc in each st (24)
Rounds 8-9: sc in each st (24)
Round 10: Working in BLO for entire round  (use a stitch marker to mark the Front Loop of the first st), *sc in the next 6 sts, scdec* 3 times (21)

Round 11:

Place the tree down on a hard surface with the body face ‘up’ and the legs facing you.  Locate the 7 centre front sts and mark them with a stitch marker (the arms will be placed on either side of these sts). Locate the far right marked st.  Count over 1 st to the right to begin Round 11. (If this is not the next unworked st then sc until you reach the indicated st.)

 (If left handed you will locate the left st and count over 1 st to the left).  

Fold the first arm in half so that the 2 stitches (marked by stitch markers) are lined up.  Hold the arm in front of your work.  Working through the arm (2 marked stitches) and the next unworked st of the body, 2sc

Working through the body only, Sc in the next 7 sts,

Fold the second arm in half so that the 2 stitches (marked by stitch markers) are lined up.  Hold the arm in front of your work.  Working through the arm (2 marked stitches) and the next unworked st of the body, 2sc

Working through the body only, Sc in the next 12 sts (23).

Begin stuffing lightly.
Round 12: scdec, sc in the next 7 sts, scdec, sc in the last 12 sts (21)
Round 13: Working in BLO for entire round  (use a stitch marker to mark the Front Loop of the first st), *sc in the next 5 sts, scdec* 3 times (18)
Rounds 14-16: sc in each st (18)
Round 17: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)
Round 18: sc in each st (15)
Add safety eyes to Round 15 on the front of the tree approximately 3 sts apart (2 sts showing between the eyes), continue stuffing lightly.
Round 19: Working in BLO for entire round  (use a stitch marker to mark the Front Loop of the first st), *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 3 times (12)
Round 20: *sc in the next 2 sts, scdec* 3 times (9)
Round 21: *sc, scdec* 3 times (6)
Finish stuffing
End off, leaving a 6” tail, cinch the last 6 sts together and weave in the end. 

Christmas Tree Ruffles:

The ruffles are worked in a joined round in the FLO of Rounds 6, 9, 12, 18 of the body/head.

Using Green, with the bottom of the tree facing away from you, attach yarn to the marked Front Loop of Round 6.

Round 1: beginning in the marked st and working in the FLO all the way around, *sc, sk next st, 5dc* repeat around, join with ss to the first sc.  End off, OR continue to Round 2 if adding ‘snow’, beads or bells.
   
Round 2: If adding bells or beads, string them with a needle onto White yarn first (1 per ruffle), change to White, *ss in the next 4 sts, pull up bell or bead (if using), ss in the next 2 sts* repeat around, join to the first st.

Rounds 3-8: repeat Rounds 1 and 2 for the front loops of Head/Body Rounds 9, 12 and 18.
End off, weave in ends.

Christmas Tree Star:

Made in one joined round.

Using Gold Dust, create a Magic Ring

Round 1: ch1, *hdc, picot* 5 times, join to the first hdc (5)
End off, leaving a 6” tail.

Continue to Sewing Placement. 

Sewing Placement – I highly recommend pinning ALL parts in place BEFORE sewing to make sure everything sits properly and is to your liking 🙂

Star:  
Place the star on top of the head.  Sew in place.
Eyes:
If needed, embroider on sleepy eyes. See video: Sleepy Eyes
Facial Embroidery:  
Using Black, embroider a small mouth. Video
Using embroidery floss or medium weight yarn, follow video for embroidering the  eye highlights, eyelashes  and eyebrows (if desired).Video
