It is highly recommended to complete the No Sew Jelly Bean Chicken pattern in the order the pattern is written.

Start your Jelly Bean Chicken Free Crochet Pattern:

Main Colour – White (20 yards)
Accent Colours – Gold (Gold Dust), Red (Tomato) (small amount of each)

Wings (make 2): The wings are worked in 1 Row with the 2 ends used to tie the wings in place after they are crocheted on.

Using Main Colour, leave a 6 inch starting tail, ch 3

Row 1: 3dc into the 3rd ch from the hook (starting ch), ch2, ss into same ch (starting ch) (3)
Mark the starting chain with a stitch marker to help with crocheting the wing on.  End off, leaving a 6 inch tail.

Body/Head: The body and head are worked in one piece from the bottom up in continuous rounds.

Using Main Colour, create a Magic Ring

Round 1: 6sc in the ring (6)
Round 2: *2sc* 6 times (12)
Round 3: *sc in the next, 2sc* 6 times (18)
Round 4: sc, change to Gold, bobble st, change to Main Colour sc in the next 5 sts, change to Gold, bobble st,  change to Main Colour sc in the next 10 sts (18)
Round 5: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)
Rounds 6-7: sc in each st (15)

Round 8: Adding Wings:

Place the animal down on a hard surface with the body face ‘up’ and the feet facing you.  Locate the 7 centre front sts and mark them with a stitch marker (the wings will be placed on either side of these sts). Locate the far right marked st.  Count over 1 st to the right of it, if this is not the next unworked st of the body, crochet over to this stitch. (If left handed you will locate the left st and count over 1 st to the left).

Place the first wing in front of the body to the right of the marked sts (left if you’re left handed).  Working through both pieces (beginning with the marked starting chain of the wing and the next unworked st on the body), sc.

Working through the body only, scdec, sc in the next 3 sts, scdec, (these are your marked sts).  Place the second wing in front of your work (body). Working through both pieces, sc in the next st, working through the body only, sc in the next 2 sts, scdec, sc in the next 2 sts (12).

After completing the round, pull the tails into the body on either side of the stitch used to attach the wings.  Tie the tails together on the inside of the body.

Round 9: *2sc* 12 times (24)
Rounds 10-12: sc in each st (24)
Round 13: *sc in the next 6 sts, scdec* 3 times (21)
Round 14: *sc in the next 5 sts, scdec* 3 times (18)
Round 15: *sc in the next 4 sts, scdec* 3 times (15)

Adding Eyes:     If using safety eyes, place 6 sts apart on Round 12 of the body/head. Begin stuffing.

Round 16: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 3 times (12)
Finish stuffing
Round 17: *scdec* 6 times (6)
End off leaving a 6 inch tail, cinch the last 6 sts together and weave in the end.

Adding Comb:     Using stitch markers, mark the centre st approx 3 rounds above the eyes (approx Round 15), then mark the centre sts every 1.5-2 Rounds 3 times (4 marked stitches).  Attach red yarn to the first marked stitch. Turn the head so that the face of the Chicken is towards the right (left if left handed).  Working from front of head to back.  Sc in first marked st, *ch3, sc in next marked st* 3 times
Beak:
Using Gold, insert  your needle horizontally 1 round down from eyes under 3 sts.  (Note – to make it centred you may need to insert needle in the middle of the sts as shown).  Repeat 4-5 times though the same set of holes.  Tie off and weave in ends.
