Crochet Christmas Decoration Pattern – Essential Info!
This new series of Christmas tree ornaments has quickly become my favourite set. They feature mini candy canes for arms and legs—how unique and adorable! If you don’t have mini candy canes, the pattern includes instructions for curly cue limbs as well.
The collection is designed using WeCrochet’s Brava Worsted Yarn (4) and Brava Tweed Worsted (4). The yarn is super soft, and the colours are amazing. You can also use your favourite medium (4) weight yarn, but it’s not recommended to adjust the yarn weight for this project.
The pattern uses 6mm flat back black pearls hot glued in place for eyes, but you could also use 6mm safety eyes or embroider the eyes. Be cautious with small parts around children under 3, as they can be a choking hazard. The Candy Cane Ornaments work up quickly and easily with minimal sewing, since the head and body are worked in one piece.
Tips for Crocheting Christmas Ornaments
Crocheting Christmas ornaments is a fun way to get in the festive mood! And handmade decorations feel more homey don’t you think? I want your Holidays to feel extra special. So, here are some tips to help you create beautiful crochet ornaments that will last year after year.
- Choose the Right Yarn: Opt for yarns that hold their shape well, like cotton or acrylic blends. Yarns with a bit of sparkle can add a festive touch to your ornaments.
- Use a Smaller Hook: Using a hook slightly smaller than recommended for your yarn weight can result in tighter stitches, which is ideal for ornaments that need to keep their shape over time.
- Incorporate Stiffening Techniques: To ensure your ornaments hold up, consider using a fabric stiffener or a homemade solution of water and glue to stiffen them after completion. Note: Make sure to dry them properly before use!
- Add Personal Touches: Embellish your ornaments with beads, sequins, or embroidery to make them unique. Personalizing ornaments can make them cherished keepsakes.
- Secure Attachments: If your ornament includes small parts or attachments, make sure they are securely fastened, especially if children will handle them, or pets can get to them.
By following these tips, you’ll create stunning crochet ornaments that will have a quality to them that no store bought decorations can replicate.
