This little pocket pal cow free crochet pattern was designed with minimal sewing to be the perfect gift for your little one or a great addition to your craft table. This easy to follow pattern will help you create a cute, quick friend.

The Pocket Pal Cow is shown using Scheepjes Stone Washed XL (medium weight (4)), and Premier Parfait Chunky, (light super bulky (6)).
Feel free to experiment with your favourite Amigurumi yarns as well! Check out this post for some guidelines on how.
The pattern is shown using 10.5mm (medium weight) and 15mm (light super bulky weight) safety eyes, from Suncatcher Craft Eyes . For those of you wanting to sell or gift to kids under 3, the pattern also includes instruction for embroidering sleepy eyes.
All the patterns in the Pocket Pal Series work up quickly and easily with minimal sewing required. The muzzle, head and body are worked in one piece with the option to crochet the feet in as you go. So only the ears, tail, horn, and spot need to be sewn in place. The patterns also include video tutorials to assist at various places if you need it. Since they work up so quickly the Pocket Pal Animals are perfect to make as a last minute gift or take to your next craft market.

Notes:
- #sc, eg. (2sc, 3sc, etc) shows the number of scs to be completed in the indicated st
- Sts listed between brackets are all worked in the same st, eg. (hdc, dc)
- I highly recommend using a stitch marker to help keep track of the rounds for the body/head
- The pattern has both a ‘sew’ and no sew option for the limbs shown in the Body/Head section.
Recommended Sequence for the Pocket Pal Cow Free Crochet Pattern:
It is highly recommended to complete the Pocket Pal Cow pattern in order, as written (especially if you are using the no-sew option for the limbs).
Start your Pocket Pal Cow Free Crochet Pattern
Legs (make 4):
The legs are worked from the “hoof” to the body, in continuous rounds.
Using Toffee, create a Magic Ring
Round 1: 6sc in the ring (6)
Round 2: *2sc* 6 times (12)
Rounds 3-5: sc in each st (12)
Round 6: *sc in the next st, scdec* 4 times (8)
Stuff lightly, ss to the next st, Flatten and sc through both sides (4 sts).
End off, leaving a 12 inch tail if sewing, weave end for no sew option.
Body/Head:

Option 1: Sewing the Legs to the body
If you are sewing your legs onto your body then follow Option 1 instructions for Round 16 and Round 26.
Option 2: Crochet the Legs to the body

Using Rose, ch 6
Round 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next 3 chs, 3sc in the last ch, turn and work in the bottom of the chains, sc in the next 3 chs, 2sc in the last ch (12).
Round 2: 2sc, sc in the next 3 sts, *2sc* 3 times, sc in the next 3 sts, *2sc* twice (18).
Round 3: sc, puff st, sc in the next 3 sts, puff st, sc in the next 12 sts (18)
Round 4: sc in each st (18), change to White
Round 5: In FLO for full round, *sc in the next 2 sts, 2sc* 6 times (24)
Round 6: *sc in the next 3 sts, 2sc* 6 times (30)
Rounds 7-11: sc in each st (30)
Round 12: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 6 times (24)

Using the puff stitches from Round 3 to show the top of the muzzle. Add safety eyes to Round 5 (the same side as the puff stitches) of the head approximately 8sts apart, begin stuffing.
Round 16 Option 1: sc in the next 12 sts, *2sc, sc in the next 3sts* 3 times (27)
Option 2: Place the animal down on a hard surface with the eyes face down and the head facing you. Locate the 2 centre front sts and mark them with a stitch marker (the front legs will be placed on either side of these sts). Locate the far right marked st. Count over 4 sts to the right of it and attach your yarn to the body. (If left handed you will locate the left st and count over 4 sts to the left).
Hold your first leg in front of your work (body). Working through both pieces, sc in the next 4 sts, working through the body only, sc in the next 2 sts, Hold the second leg in front of your work (body). Working through both pieces, sc in the next 4 sts, working through the body only for the rest of the round, sc in the next 2 sts, *2sc, sc in the next 3 sts* 3 times (27).
Round 17: sc in the next 13 sts, *2sc, sc in the next 4 sts* twice, 2sc, sc in the next 3 sts (30)
Rounds 18-25: sc in each st (30),
Option 1: sew legs – continue to Round 26, Option 2: crochet legs, end off after Round 25 (or crochet over to indicated stitch determined at the beginning of Round 26) and continue to Round 26
Round 26 Option 1: sc in each st (30)
Option 2: Place the animal down on a hard surface with the legs face ‘up’ and the head facing you. Locate the 4 centre front sts and mark them with a stitch marker (the back legs will be placed on either side of these sts). Locate the far right marked st. Place the first back leg in front of the body to the right of the marked sts (left if you’re left handed). Working through both pieces (beginning with the first st of the back leg and the stitch on the body you attached your yarn to), sc in the next 4 sts.
Working through the body only, sc in the next 4 sts (these are your marked sts). Place the second back leg in front of your work (body). Working through both pieces, sc in the next 4 sts, working through the body only, sc in the last 18 sts (30).
Round 27: *sc in the next 3 sts, scdec* 6 times (24)
Round 28: *sc in the next 2 sts, scdec* 6 times (18)
Finish stuffing
Round 29: *sc, scdec* 6 times (12)
Round 30: *scdec* 6 times (6)
End off leaving a 6 inch tail, cinch the last 6 sts together and weave in the end.
Ears: (make 2)
Made in 1 joined round.
Using White or Black (make one of each color), ch 5
Round 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, *2hdc* twice, (sc, ch2, sc) in the last ch, turn and begin working in the bottom of the chain, *2hdc* twice, sc in the last ch, join to 1st st with ss (12)
End off leaving a 12 inch tail for sewing to the head.
Horns (optional,make 2):
Created in 1 row.
Using Toffee, ch 3
Row 1: ss in the 2nd ch from the hook, ss in the next st (2)
End off leaving a 9 inch tail for sewing to the head.
Spot:
Made in continuous rounds.
Using Black, create a Magic Ring
Round 1: 6sc in the ring (6)
Round 2: *2sc* 6 times (12)
Round 3: *sc, 3dc, ss* twice, sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2hdc, sc in the last 2 sts (19)
End off leaving a 18 inch tail for sewing.
Tail:
Using Black, ch 7
Round 1: puff st in the 3rd ch from the hook, ss in the next 4 sts
End off, leaving a 6 inch tail.
Bow (Optional):
Using Red, ch 4, join to the first chain to create a loop
Round 1: Ch2, 3dc in the loop, ch2, ss into the loop, ch2, 3dc in the loop, ch2, ss into the loop.
End off, leaving an 18” tail. Wrap the tail around the centre of the bow 6-8 times, secure the tail at the back of the bow. Use the remaining tail for sewing.
How to assemble your Pocket Pal Cow Free Crochet Pattern
Sewing Placement – I highly recommend pinning ALL parts of your Pocket Pal Cow in place BEFORE sewing to make sure everything sits properly and is to your liking 🙂
| Note: Disregard sewing the legs if you’ve already crocheted them on. Front Legs: Place the front legs on the underside of the body (opposite side to the eyes) at approx Round 16 of the body about 2 sts apart. Sew in place. When sewing the front legs in place I sewed the top of the last FULL ROUND DOWN instead of just the sts from crocheting the round together. |
| Back Legs: Using the front legs as a guide. Place the back legs at approx Round 26 of the body, approx 4 sts apart. Sew in place. When sewing the back leg in place I sewed the top of the last FULL ROUND DOWN instead of just the sts from crocheting the round together. |
