Make your own quick NO SEW Jelly Bean Starfish amigurumi! The Jelly Bean Starfish is a fun little twist in the series, using a slightly different method to shape its five arms. Even with the extra shaping, it’s still a great project for advanced beginners and quick enough to make for gifts or markets. At just over 3.5 inches across, this mini plush is ideal for ocean‑themed décor, toy sets, or adding to the full Jelly Bean Sea Creature collection.
Why Do You Want to Make a Crochet Starfish?
These mini starfish are cute to make for all sorts of reasons! Here are some ideas to inspire you:
- Hang them as mobiles or car mirror charms.
- Decorate holiday trees or sea‑themed wreaths.
- Turn them into backpack zipper pulls or keychains.
- Create a little Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) gift.
- Combine with other Jelly Bean creatures for a full ocean garland.
- Add them to market stalls as small, eye‑catching items.
- Include them in handmade gift bundles for ocean lovers.

The Jelly Bean Starfish works beautifully in plush yarns like Hobbii Honey Bunny or Premier Parfait Chunky (light super bulky, 6). You can also make them with worsted weight or cotton yarn — just swap your hook size to suit.
Each arm is crocheted separately and then joined together in a circle before working toward the centre, giving it that perfect star shape. A step‑by‑step video tutorial is included to walk you through the shaping and joining of the arms.
REmember! You can also dive into your leftover yarn stash. Here’s a great stashbusting blog post to help guide you.
This crochet starfish pattern also includes a Full Video Tutorial!
Part of the Jelly Bean Sea Animal 2 Collection
The full set of Jelly Bean Sea Creatures — including jellyfish, starfish, whale, dolphin, lobster, shark, and stingray — is available now in the 7‑pattern bundle:
If you prefer, you can also follow along as each pattern is released individually on the blog over the coming months.

Five Fun Facts About Starfish!
- Starfish have no brain or blood — instead, they use filtered sea water to move nutrients around their body.
- They can regrow arms — if a starfish loses one, it can grow it back, and sometimes a single arm can even grow into a whole new starfish. 🤯
- Starfish use tube feet to walk — tiny suction‑like feet help them crawl along rocks and sand.
- They can turn their stomachs inside out — starfish digest food outside their body before pulling it back in!
- There are about 2,000 species of starfish — they come in every colour, shape, and size you can imagine. Which of course also means you can use scrap yarn to craft your starfish!
