How awesome are robots?!  Doesn’t this sweet ‘little’ guy just steal your heart?  I have been wanting to create a robot for quite some time now.  About 4 years ago I found an adorable little set of robot stickers.  I purchased them with the intent of using the stickers as inspiration when designing a robot crochet pattern, but just never got around to it.

Then, a couple months ago I was cleaning out my desk and found my stickers!  This time I had to do it….and thus, Sprocket was born.  Sprocket the Robot corchet pattern was originally designed with the super soft, beautiful, Bernat Baby Velvet Yarn (4) that I found in the Spring at my local Michaels store.  They no longer carry some of the colours used, but there are lots of fabulous “Robot” colours to choose from at your local Michaels or Walmart.   Yarnspirations.com also has a great selection of Bernat Baby Velvet yarn.

My eldest son took to Sprocket immediately <3.  It was the cutest thing to watch him play with his new friend.  A few days later my son asked if I could make a bigger one like the Pillow Buddies I made for him a couple years ago (Check them out here).  He was so sweet about…I just couldn’t say no.  Plus, I was curious as to just how big Sprocket would turn out.

Armed with my Bernat Blanket Yarn (6) and an L (8.0mm) hook and LOTS of polyfil, I worked through the pattern again.  Aside from the yarn, hook and additional stuffing, I followed the pattern exactly as written for the original version.  He turned out HUGE and absolutely PERFECT.  Instead of only 15 inches in height using Bernat Baby Velvet he now stands a whopping 32 inches!  I couldn’t be more excited about the results.

The pattern is labeled an intermediate pattern because there are a few more advanced skills used.  For example, working in a continuous rectangle, creating the ‘hand’ and using a spike stitch for the tummy screen.  For each new skill I have created a short video tutorial to help you if you need it.
